
Accountant - Convenience - Fresh
We are recruiting for a Finance Business Partner in the Convenience area, supporting trading plans, ensuring financial actions are followed up, and acting as the key finance contact for the commercial team. The role involves reviewing category P&Ls, managing aged debt, and providing insights on sales, margin, promotions, and market performance. You’ll also support budgeting and forecasting, ensuring clear justifications for changes and alignment on risks and opportunities. Additionally, you’ll oversee commercial income and financial control, ensuring accurate tracking, timely billing, and robust financial reporting.
Accountabilities
Business Partnering
- Providing guidance, support and challenge around trading plans and activities. Ensuring actions followed up on
- Commercial team key contact for wider finance related queries
- Aligning with business partners on commentary around performance, ensuring action plans and proposals are backed by data
- Business case development and sign off support
- Category P&L reviews
- Aged debt management
Performance Review & Analysis
- Daily / Weekly Performance Review
- Sales / Mgn / Commercial Income
- Promotion Evaluations – what lift was observed, was it margin generative,
- Price & Margin sensitivity – review and refine to optimise cash margin
- Market performance – how are we tracking against the IGD, where are we under indexing, and working on options to address
Budgeting & Forecasting
- Outturn reviews at category level to feed into monthly roll up. Ensuring clear justification for any changes and aligning with commercial team on risks and opportunities
- Prior month outturn actions and assumptions evaluated. If actions not followed through on why not? If assumptions not holding what can we do differently?
Commercial Income & Financial Control
- Ensure all contracted commercial income captured and tracked effectively, without any blind spots
- Billing and receipts are happening on time
- Reporting to understand which suppliers regularly late on payments
- Capturing entries for Journals, period end postings & branch allocations
About you
We need a Qualified Accountant (CIMA, ACA, ACCA or equivalent) with a strong foundation in management or financial accounting. If you’ve got commercial finance experience, that’s a plus – but more importantly, we want someone who’s curious, proactive, and ready to challenge the status quo.
You’ll also bring:

Find an opportunity that's right for you

Online Assessment (Customer Assistant roles)
After your application, we might send you an e-mail and ask you to complete an online assessment. This is typically a situation judgement test where we'll ask you ten questions with mutliple choice answers and takes around 10-15 minutes to complete. The questions will give you a feel for the types of scenarios you might encounter working in our stores - think customer first.

For other roles our resourcing team will get in touch with you to find out a bit more about you and why you applied. They'll also answer any questions you might have about us and the role. Interview
Our interviews are typically face to face but can sometimes be virtual. Don't worry, we'll advise either way. Your interview can differ depending on the role or team. Part of the interview may include some competency questions against our Ways of Working (listed below).

Final Stage
With some of our roles there might be a second interveiw. This tends to be for roles in our Head Office and some salaried positions across our stores and sites. As part of this second stage, we might ask you to complete a task, such as a SWOT analysis or something similar, and present it back during the interview. This helps us understand your approach and thinking about the role.

Our resourcing team or the store or site you've applied to will be in touch with you as soon as they can to let you know the outcome. If you've been successful we'll share the details of our offer with you and follow up with everything you need on e-mail.
