When it comes to careers, our unique 28,000 square foot Rathbones bakery in Wakefield offers something to suit just about every taste.

It’s our only bakery which means it’s always incredibly busy. Our 400 strong team works 24/7 to produce 47 different products, from hot cross buns and seeded loaves to delicious orange and cranberry muffins, crumpets, pancakes, naans, pittas, and more.

Not to mention frozen products for our in-store bakeries and, of course, our famous Rathbones Toastie. With lots of different roles, a wide choice of shift patterns, and plenty of challenges, it has variety well and truly baked in.

  • Production

    Everyone loves a fresh loaf. And it’s down to our production team to ensure the smooth running of our production lines and ensure that the quality of our product is tip top. Our bakery has over 300 colleagues, and every one has their own part to play, from our Production Managers to our Machine and Manufacturing Operatives.

  • Technical

    It’s the job of our site technical teams to ensure that Morrisons standards for quality, safety, compliance, social responsibility and integrity are achieved. We have a Site Technical Manager who has a team that works with colleagues across the site to identify, escalate and manage risks, deal with incidents and improve processes. 

  • Engineering

    Our Engineering team at Wakefield work really hard to ensure limited  machinery downtime and breakdowns. They have 8 minutes to get the machines up and running after a break down due to the nature of the ‘live’ product. So being able to work under pressure is key. They keep our factory operating 24/7.

  • New Product Development

    We’re always on the lookout for new ideas and ways to improve our current products. Our NPD team are proper foodies, they live and breathe their product and use their knowledge to come up with innovative ideas. Whether it’s new artisan breads, or a new flavour of donuts they work with the operational teams to ensure we’re always one step ahead of the trends.  

  • People

    Our People team are a busy bunch. With over 300 colleagues in our factory, no two days are the same. They’re a one stop shop. From recruiting, onboarding and inducting their teams, to driving engagement and ensuring they create a great place to work. 

  • Canteen

    Our canteen team is the backbone of our Wakefield bakery. They create hearty meals for our colleagues in order to refuel them for the day ahead. From full english breakfast, fish ‘n’ chip fridays and healthy salads, there’s something for everyone.

We're always looking for new ways to improve. From our new automated robotic pick and place technology on our Bread, Pancake, Pitta and Crumpet packing operations. The new technology will allow us to pack 9,000 loaves of bread an hour - that's a whole lot of dough!

We're also fully automating a packaging line to pack our range of baguettes. But none of this would be possible without our talented engineering and production teams.
