I’ve got lots of friends here and it’s like a big family.

I came to the UK from Thailand and worked as a waitress while I trained to be a chef. Every Friday night I shopped at Morrisons and wished I worked here. 

I joined as an operative and now help to make fresh food on the production lines at one of our manufacturing sites. As a team we help and support each other, so we can learn new things and use different equipment.

I’ve now worked at Morrisons for over 8 years. I love my job because I like the people. I work in a diverse team with people from a variety of countries, which makes it interesting, as you get to learn about different cultures. 

This is a nice place to work and I’m happy here. I still learn new skills and enjoy new experiences. The pay is good and people are always happy to help. I now help to coach new starters and pass on what I know.

When I moved to England from India I was 24,and couldn’t speak English at all. It took a few months to learn the language and get used to the Doncaster accent. But I soon felt at home. And I now speak with the same accent.

I started as a bakery operative in a small bakeryand was there for a few years. But I came to Morrisons for a better career. I was a bakery operative, then a technical operative, before becoming a production team manager. To help me make the step up,I shadowed a manager for 3 months, receiving great training and the support of a mentor who I could turn to for advice.

I now look after 2 plants. This involves looking after the machinery, controlling waste and managing a team of people of many nationalities. You’re well rewarded here and I enjoy working with great people as well as the shift patterns of 2 days, 2 nights and 4 days off. Morrisons treats you fairly wherever you’re from. If you show the right attitude and can do the job, you’ll get opportunities to progress. I hope to become a shift manager in the next few years.

“Born in Lithuania, I did voluntary work for 18 years distributing clothes and medical supplies in different countries. My job took me from Moscow to Mexico City to Guatemala. My travels meant I hadn’t seen my sister for a while. She lived in England, so I visited and kind of stuck.

When I started working at the bakery site in Wakefield I didn’t know anything about baking. But Morrisons provided me with on site training and I also learnt by working on different machinery. Four years later I’m now a technical operator, maintaining manufacturing equipment and overseeing a team of 10 people. I make sure everything runs smoothly and what we produce is always high quality.

I didn’t know anybody when I joined the team, but I soon made friends here. For me the best thing about Morrisons is the people. We go out together and I enjoy working with very nice people. It’s like being part of a family. If you’re looking for a good job in the UK I’d recommend Morrisons because there are plenty of opportunities and everyone is so friendly. It’s probably best to learn to speak a bit of English first. Everything else they can teach you.”

“I’m originally from Poland where I was a social worker and enjoyed working on many IT projects. When I moved to England I worked for a meat production company and started by working nights in the factory.I pushed myself to develop my English and IT skills and eventually looked after the system responsible for manufacturing, purchasing and planning.

The skills I gained were ideal for Morrisons. So I joined the team in system admin. Now 3 years later I’m a master data manager looking after the systems at 11 manufacturing sites. Every site offers plenty of variety and every day is different. It’s what I like about my job. I make sure our systems meet the needs of different teams from production and planning to finance and suppliers. I travel a lot between sites. I love that.

Morrisons is the best company I’ve ever worked for. They really care about people and give you opportunities to progress if you want to. The people here are great. I’ve made lots of friends from a variety of countries and been able to learn from different people and cultures. I think it’s great that Morrisons wants to welcome and encourage more people to join the team from the EU. It gets me quite emotional. I love it here and see myself staying in the UK and with Morrisons in the long term.”

Peter is a team manager for production at the company's largest meat production plant, and has been at Morrisons for 10 years.

Due to the short shelf life, Peter works very hard to get the products sliced, diced and chopped and over to customers as quickly as possible. The thing that gets Peter to work in the morning is his team because they all really drive each other to be the best they can be.
