Tax & treasury
As well as managing financial risks, insurance, debt funding and our relationships with our banks, we advise on tax and make sure we meet our tax obligations.
We manage accounts payable and receivables, stores cash, travel & expenses, bank reconciliation, profit recovery, online, wholesale, balance sheet reconciliation and the processing of these activities by our partners.
There are a wide range of ancillary activities that support our suppliers, our customers and both our internal and external stakeholders.

Working in Finance Operations allows interaction across the entire business and is a great grounding in all things finance. Many of our team begin their careers in Finance Operations and grow their knowledge and experience in order to apply this in their next role across our wider finance teams.

Group central accounting
Our central accounting team supports a number of business areas. Working closely with business support functions, the team maintains financial control and analyses performance and forecasts to help identify and implement improvements. Our central accounting team is exposed to the full range of head office functions. That means it’s a great place to get involved in all kinds of finance and wider business projects that will help your career to develop.

Logistics finance
We work closely with our colleagues in distribution and supply chain to deliver exceptional service to our shops and wholesale customers. We maintain financial control and analyse performance to allow us to work together with our operational partners to ensure this service is delivered in a cost effective manner.

Retail finance
The retail finance team manages an annual cost base including store payroll, waste and markdown and other store expenses. Communication and stakeholder management are key skills in this team as we have stakeholders across the country. Our main stakeholders are the operations directors and their regional field teams who we partner to control costs and improve store performance. Day to day we analyse and report on key performance metrics for stores as well as managing the retail P&L. Working with the rest of the business we are able to budget and forecast these costs lines and support with the implementation of new retail initiatives. The most rewarding aspect of working in this team is the ability to quickly see the impact you are having on the business just by walking in to one of our stores.

Commercial finance
Commercial finance teams provide support to the Trading function of the business, covering everything that is bought and sold through Morrisons stores. The roles are incredibly diverse in their nature and involve working with a wide range of stakeholders to deliver accurate performance reporting & insights , analysis of trading performance trends, costs and supplier income recognition, annual and quarterly budgeting and cash collection. The pace of the business is intense and relentless, but the work is challenging and rewarding. It is somewhere you can make a real difference to the overall performance of the company and where you will learn and grow at an incredibly steep rate.

Marketing finance
Partnering with our marketing team, our financial know-how helps them deliver innovative plans and put Morrisons in the spotlight. As well as analysing the past, present and future sales performance of our stores, we control all kinds of costs from advertising, digital and PR to coupons, our 'More' card and colleague discounts. Based at Hilmore House, we get a great overview of activities across our stores and different channels, as we support all kinds of teams from own brand, trade and event planning to pricing, local and customer service.

Risk & internal audit
We provide independent assurance to the board that major risks are being managed appropriately and that the control environment is operating effectively. Our team covers the whole business, including stores, logistics, manufacturing sites and all head office functions, including online and wholesale.
The team perform audits linked to the 6 priorities and the key improvement plans, as well as technology audits and programme assurance reviews. Communication and stakeholder management are key skills in this team as we deal with senior stakeholders across the company.
The work is fast paced, challenging and diverse, we have the opportunity to get involved with what really matters for our stores, colleagues or sites. It is a role that provides a great overview of the business where you can make a difference.

Cash reporting & forecasting
We are involved in all aspects of working capital, from stock to supplier income, debtors to creditors and everywhere in between. In addition we help the business understand performance from a supplier and range perspective.
We regularly deal with the most senior stakeholders within the business and play a key role in understanding our net debt position for external reporting.
Touching so many areas of the business and dealing with a diverse range of stakeholders, a role within Cash reporting & forecasting gives the ideal opportunity to expand technical and interpersonal skills.

Property finance
We partner the property operational teams as they focus on one of Morrisons' key priorities - making our core supermarkets strong again.
Whether reporting on and prioritising maintenance spend, planning projects with the energy team to drive energy efficiency, or appraising business plans for our Fresh Look programme or new store concepts, there's plenty of opportunity to make a difference, and to grow and develop as a finance professional.

Systems development
We get involved with a wide range of projects, including new initiatives such as wholesale and ensure that those projects can be incorporated into Finance by assessing the impacts on: accounting, controls, finance operations and commercial analysis.
The rest of Finance is our customer, but we need to work with many other parts of the business to ensure that the solutions delivered are fit for Finance.

TYPICAL ROLES
Finance manager - Making a difference at the heart of Morrisons, our finance managers help our managers to achieve a top performance. They own the delivery of our ambitious plans, support commercial negotiations and champion our standard costing and transfer cost process.
As well as a CIMA, ACA or equivalent accounting qualification, you’ll need a good understanding of financial accounting, purchasing and management systems.
Accountant - Our accountants love solving problems in our fast-paced environment and building strong working relationships with colleagues across all areas of our business.
We look for qualified accountants with either CIMA, ACA or ACCA. A good time manager who can meet tight deadlines, you must be passionate about finance with the drive to influence change and improvements. Always aware of the bigger picture, you should also have a great attention to detail and experience of monthly account packs and accounting software.
Assistant accountant - Our assistant accountants deliver an excellent service to our colleagues, answering their queries and meeting their needs.
With or working towards a CIMA, AAT, ACA, ACCA or equivalent, you must be resilient and self-motivated with an eye for detail and excellent analytical and numerical skills. You should also have a good understanding of accounting software and the ability to hit deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
